Motif & Soie is an independent editorial journal about the craft of eco-responsible printed silk and original textile motif design. It exists to explain and celebrate a discipline — how motifs are made, how silk behaves, how a scarf or a wall hanging is finished, and where the “made in France” textile tradition comes from — in clear, practical language for anyone curious about it.
What this journal is
This is a reference resource, organised as a small library of essays. Its aim is to be useful and honest: to help a reader understand what separates a well-made textile from a throwaway one, to demystify the techniques involved, and to point toward the wider authorities — museums, standards bodies and heritage organisations — where deeper information lives.
What this journal is not
Motif & Soie is not a shop and not a studio. It sells nothing, takes no orders or commissions, and hosts no store, cart or price list. It is an independent publication and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or representing any particular atelier, maker, designer or brand. Where techniques such as bespoke commissioning are described, they are explained as a discipline for general understanding, not offered as a service.
Any resemblance between the topics covered here and the work of individual makers reflects only the shared subject matter of a well-established craft. This site does not publish personal information about any individual, and carries no personal biography, portrait or contact details.
How to use it

A note on sources

Editorial independence is the whole point of this resource. Because Motif & Soie sells nothing and represents no maker, it has no reason to favour one product, technique or supplier over another — its only loyalty is to the reader who wants to understand the craft.
